SENATOR GEORGE AKUME HOSTS INTER-MINISTERIAL MEETING FOR EMPOWERMENT, POVERTY ALLEVIATION

Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Senator Dr George Akume has organized an inter- ministerial meeting towards harnessing opportunities for empowerment and poverty alleviation in Nigeria. 

The meeting which held today at the Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs witnessed a presentation on "Prospects of Cottage Industries in Harnessing Opportunities From Inter-ministerial Collaboration" with Prof. Bernard Bolaji Babatunde as Guest Speaker.

Declaring the meeting open, Senator Dr George Akume who is the host said Nigeria under President Muhammadu Buhari must utilize available local opportunities to boost her economy and create jobs for the country's teeming population.

The Honourable Minister mentioned particular areas of interest which include; harnessing dams for massive irrigation and power generation, climate adaptation techniques, reviving the National Agricultural Initiative and establishment of cottage industries that would cut across the Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development, Environment, Power and Water Resources, along the economic corridors of Nigeria.

He urged the Ministers and other stakeholders to initiate sincere policies and programmes along the outlined areas in order to arrest the looming dangers of unemployment and imminent economic recession.

The meeting had in attendance the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Hon. Sabo Nanono, Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Hussein Adamu, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Hon. Adeniyi Adebayo and the Minister of Environment, Hon. Mohammed Mahmoud who also made insightful contributions towards achieving empowerment, employment and poverty alleviation in Nigeria.
